Finally the day that EVER’s had been waiting for arrived; Death Of Me album drop day – 07/09/2026.
The album consisted of 8 tracks, 2 being Ride Or Die and Overflow which were released previously for his solo debut on June 22nd 2026.
Before listening to this album, I kept thinking about everything he had said about it in his pre-comeback interviews, and all the keyboard warriors online who I had no doubt he would prove wrong.
NOT ENOUGH
In a Billboard Interview with Tetris Kelly (Tanaka)1, EVAN says that Not Enough is the main theme of the album, which is why he set it as track one. Tetris brings up how EVAN described himself as “not enough” in his debut documentary; EVAN says that his development is more important than money and fame for himself and he thinks he isn’t enough in that aspect, though I am confident fans beg to differ. This may seem greedy, however I view it in a lens that shows he is ambitious and has more ahead of him that he wants to accomplish.
NOISE
The song almost feels like his response to the criticism that followed his departure from ENHYPEN. Whether that was the intention or not, certain lyrics take on a different meaning when viewed against the backlash and speculation surrounding his departure. He has a lyric – “I don’t care bout the noise around I tune it just fine” – almost to say he is flipping the hate and transforming it into a song; the “noise” being the chaos that was happening on social media regarding his solo career decision.
In a Weverse Magazine (위버스 매거진)2, EVAN said he wanted to tell people through this song that, “good days do eventually come around”.
“Oh, whatever I’m doing, I’m doing it right… No I’ll never mess up my life.”
DEATH OF ME
The title track, although called “Death of Me”, contradicts its own title in the chorus, where he sings, “this ain’t the death of me.”
EVAN said in Weverse Magazine (위버스 매거진)2, it comes from a place of having actually gone right up to the edge of death himself. He felt that, no matter how far down he went, it was never really the end. He could be referring to his lymphoma diagnosis as a child, where he mentioned in the same article that he recalls thinking he really wanted to live, whilst watching his friends in the hospital pass away with a similar condition.
A contributor on Genius – @/hyeoncrazy – wrote that this song is about continuing to pursue your own path without letting your fears torment you (Genius)3. They also point out in the music video, that EVAN does not see the “edge of cliff” he reaches as a fall, but as an opportunity to dive into the unknown and find himself – “낯선 길 I won’t wait (I won’t wait) 두려움은 six feet under..”. This line, to me, represents going with the flow, not waiting to see what happens and to jump right in – the way EVAN has and is not letting his fears take over.
TWILIGHT
EVAN said he thinks EVER’s will be shocked by this song and described it as “smooth.. a little RnB” which fans cheered at during the open part of the Billboard interview in Las Vegas (sabღ, TikTok)4.
To me I think, this song is a romantic, secret, love-inspired song – contrasts from the other tracks, but good nonetheless.
“Feels so timeless
암호 같은 우리만의 입맞춤,”
Translates to: “Feels so timeless a secret kiss only we know,”
IMMATURE
EVAN mentioned previously in his debut documentary (HYBE LABELS)5 that he wanted this song to be released instead of Ride or Die on June 22nd, but it was a vote with everyone involved in the process. Personally I believe this would have been such a strong debut song to have due to the meaning of the song. It reminds me of track 2, noise:
“Oh, this is all I wanna do. Oh, this is all I ever wanted,”
This line was in the teaser released on social media before (@/h_evv_an, Instagram)6 and I had seen the debut documentary already at that moment and thought it is as if he is talking to the haters. This is all he has wanted to do, go solo and produce his own music.
A few days later, he had the Billboard interview with Tetris (Tanaka)1 and expanded on this song by saying he found the haters annoying, and embraced his “immaturity” by making a song about it.
“I’m immature, guys. So what?” – Billboard Interview
Additionally in the Weverse Magazine (위버스 매거진)2, he said that a time came where he had to face the immature parts of himself, that he used to hide, head-on. He acknowledged that he has to work on things, but like he said, no one in this world is perfect. He said it feels alot better to accept you have things to work on rather than accepting yourself for who you are, allowing yourself to have these flaws but working on them.
GOING HOME
This final track had more of a sentimental vibe, compared to the rest of the album, excluding Overflow which was released prior.
In the Weverse Magazine (위버스 매거진)2 , EVAN says that he hadn’t had the time to go home since becoming a singer, hinting at his packed schedule whilst being in ENHYPEN. So much so that it consumed him emotionally and he had the thought, “I want to go home”.
After this magazine was released, many fans on social media came to accept why he went solo, rather than doing these activities within the group he was in – it was too much for him, he’s human too.
Moreover, regarding the decisions to his solo career, EVAN held a press conference at Kyung Hee University and brought up the incident when fans flooded the agency (BELIFT LAB) and media outlets with protests and concerns due to his sudden departure from ENHYPEN. He sincerely apologised for this and said he will strive to become an artist who continues to demonstrate positive influence going forward (Seunghun)7.
Furthermore, fans were happy to hear EVAN mention ENHYPEN, as he has not, nor has the group mentioned him, since his departure in March 2026. A reporter asked why he could not do solo activities within the group – a question many fans had from the beginning of this – and whether he has any regret leaving as the group has continued reaching new career highs. He tread carefully around the question, saying going solo involves multiple people.
For context, ENHYPEN hit No.1 on Billboard with their 6-member album, THE SIN: BLISS, for the first time (Caulfield)8.
“I’m proud of them. Reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 isn’t an easy goal to achieve. I think the best thing is for me to continue working hard as well and for all of us to show our best in our respective positions.” – EVAN regarding ENHYPEN’s No.1 Billboard Achievement.
Fans on social media have expressed their reactions/ thoughts towards this statement and find it bittersweet.

It seems as though both EVERs and ENGENEs are beginning to feel more at ease regarding the relationship between EVAN and ENHYPEN. Although they do not know them personally, this statement appears to have reassured fans and reminded them that, at the end of the day, they were – and perhaps still are – like brothers, regardless of where they now stand.
